THE PERFECT MIX

Soil & Climate

Pinot Noir gets its name from the French words for ‘pine’ and ‘black,’ reflecting the dark-hued skin and pine cone-shaped bunches. With a long history dating back to Burgandy  in the 1st  century,  Central Otago is now home to some of the world’s finest pinot noirs.

Pinot noir flavours express the story of the land or Pinot Noir terroir.

Our vineyard sits high on a dryland plateau above Clyde township under under the watchful eye of Leaning Rock, Haehaeata. We experience soaring summer and freezing winter temperatures. It is here, on the very edge of winemaking viability, that our vines thrive and reward with spectacular wine of outstanding flavour and quality.

COMMITMENT TO CARE

The Finest Grapes

Without the best fruit, you can’t make the best wine!

Widely regarded as one of the most finicky grape varieties to work with, we take pride in our careful vineyard management. Mount Dunstan supplies world-class Central Otago Pinot Noir grapes to New Zealand vintners who produce award-winning Pinot Noir and Pinot Noir Rosé wines destined for local and international markets. We also produce our own premium wine under our Mount Dunstan label – Pinot Noir, Pinot Noir Reserve and Pinot Noir Rosé.

Our commitment to care is guided by Sustainable Winegrowing NZ regulations to ensure we meet international standards for sustainability practices.

LIVING THE DREAM

At home on the vineyard

Mount Dunstan Estates offers a relaxed, rural lifestyle within a 54-hectare Pinot Noir vineyard. Today, the vineyard is home to 16 small-lot owners who, since 2010, have joined forces to manage their share of this established vineyard.

Residents enjoy both independence and a sense of community within the village estate, all while embracing the quintessential Central Otago landscape. With expansive views of the Dunstan Mountains, Old Man Range, the Hawkduns, and glimpses of the Remarkables, we truly feel like we’re living the dream — especially with a glass of Mount Dunstan Pinot Noir in hand.
